What root beer lover doesn't know of A&W Root Beer? This classic Root Beer has graced us with its thick and creamy taste since 1919. Created by Roy Allen for a drink stand during a parade to welcome home WWI veterans in Lodi, California, this tasty brew had instant popularity. After much success, Allen partnered with Frank Wright in 1922. The two combined their initials to give us the name A&W Root Beer. Despite much changing of hands in regards to the ownership of A&W Root Beer, the only place you could get creamy A&W on tap was at an A&W restaurant. In 1971, the pleas from people who wanted to enjoy A&W in the comfort of their homes were answered. The cans and bottles were first introduced in California and Arizona, and were an instant hit. Today, A&W Root Beer is the number one root beer in all measurable channels. Much has changed since Roy Allen first sold root beer on that summer day in 1919, but the one thing that hasn't is the rich, smooth taste of A&W Root Beer.
